Reignite Your Job Search After Eid: Regain Momentum Post-Holiday

Eidkum Mubarak!
I hope you all enjoyed the Eid Al Adha holidays with your families and loved ones. Now that companies are back to work after the long weekend, it’s common for many employees to struggle with the dreaded “Monday morning blues.” While feeling sluggish for a day or two is perfectly normal, some of you—especially job seekers—can’t afford to let the post-holiday slump derail your progress or distract you from your career goals.

If that’s you, here’s how to intentionally regain (or even elevate) your job search momentum after the break. After all, you’ve had a chance to rest, recharge, and treat yourself to three days of Eid sweets, feasts and celebrations—now it’s time get back in action!

1. Reflect and Reset

Short breaks like Eid Al Adha offer the perfect opportunity to step back, clear your mind, and look at your goals with fresh eyes. Schedule some quiet time to re-evaluate your job search strategy. Ask yourself:

•   What have I accomplished so far?

•   What’s working?

•   What’s not?

Then, adjust accordingly. Grab a notebook and pen—this process requires your full attention.

2. Set Weekly Goals

Instead of daily targets, aim for five achievable goals for the week. This reduces pressure and helps avoid burnout or disappointment. Your goals could include:

•   Polishing your CV or your LinkedIn profile.

•   Connecting and reconnecting with employers.

•   Posting content aligned with your personal brand.

Weekly planning provides structure without overwhelming you.

3. Review and Refine Your Target List

If you haven’t already created a list of target employers, now’s the time. You can jot them down in a notebook, create an Excel sheet, or use a mobile app. Ensure your target companies align with your qualifications and long-term goals. Don’t just list company names—note their industries too. This allows you to explore similar employers within that space.

For each company, identify at least three people you’d like to connect with and reach out to. Also, stay updated on news and developments in their industry.

4. Reconnect Thoughtfully

Reach out to people from your target list and introduce yourself. Remember, they’ve just returned from the holidays too and are likely catching up. Be patient if responses take time.

Keep your messages short, warm, and relevant to the Eid spirit. For existing connections, I prefer personalized Eid greeting—using their name or referencing your last interaction—goes a long way in strengthening relationships.

5. Tap Into Networking Opportunities

Attend industry forums, networking events, and exhibitions. Beyond meeting potential employers, these events can revive your motivation by surrounding you with like-minded professionals and energizing conversations.

6. Invest in Self-Development

Enhancing your knowledge in a skill or topic relevant to your field can boost your confidence and motivation—two essential assets for job seekers. Enrol in a course, watch webinars, or read industry-related articles.  I personally have become a big fan of listening to podcasts as part of my self-development journey.

7. Manage Your Energy—Mentally and Physically

The holidays can take both a mental and physical toll—from social commitments to sleepless nights and sugar overload. Start your post-Eid week with light exercise or a walk in the park to boost your physical energy.

To recharge mentally, try meditation, visualization exercises, or work on creative tasks that put you “in the zone.” Taking care of your energy helps you show up as your best self.

By implementing these strategies, you’ll regain momentum quickly and be ready as hiring activity picks up. For Emirati job seekers, this month is especially critical, as employers aim to fill national positions before the June 30th deadline.

Now’s the time to stand out. Get on their radar. Be ready when the interview call comes.

Good luck!
